Why Rako RML-500

Is not recommended for mains LED and is not for trailing-edge loads; for LED, choose the RMT-500

500 W dimmer

A leading-edge dimmer for LED and other mains-dimmable loads, rated at 500 W.

In-line

Sits in the ceiling void or a fitting, on a wireless Rako system. No rack in a cupboard.

Wireless

Connects over Rakom RF. The keypad in the room talks to this module without a data cable.

What the Rako RML-500 is

The Rako RML-500 is a 500W leading-edge dimmer for Rako wireless systems. Rako lists its load types as incandescent, halogen and magnetic transformer. It is the leading-edge counterpart of the trailing-edge RMT-500, and the RML-1200 is the higher-load version.

Where it sits in a Rako system

Once programmed, the RML-500 responds to any Rako wireless transmitter, such as an RK-EOS-6 keypad or the RK-HUB, and stores up to 16 scenes. Program it from a Rako keypad, or with RASOFT Pro through a RAMPI or Hub. Rako recommends a WRB100 repeater where reception is intermittent. See all Rako wireless modules.

Ratings and limits

  • Load range: 20W to 500W
  • Low-voltage transformer loads: 450W maximum (leading-edge dimmable transformers)
  • Mains voltage LED: not recommended
  • Not suitable for trailing-edge loads

Power and connection

It runs from a 230V AC 50Hz supply and is fitted with a 5A 20mm fuse. Supply and load connect to 3-way screw terminals taking cable up to 4mm², and it communicates by FM radio at 433.9MHz. Rako's RML-500 instruction manual covers installation, which should be done by a competent electrician.

Fitting

Designed for a ceiling void, or central mounting on the supplied bracket where lighting is wired back to one location. Rako specifies a dry, ventilated position away from enclosed metal casings. It measures 138 x 46 x 40mm, weighs 125g and operates from +2°C to +40°C.

Questions

Can the Rako RML-500 dim LED lamps?

Rako does not generally recommend it for LED. Use the trailing-edge RMT-500 for mains dimmable LED.

What loads is the RML-500 for?

Mains tungsten and halogen lighting, and low-voltage lighting on leading-edge dimmable (magnetic) transformers, from 20W to 500W.

Does the RML-500 need a hub?

No. Any Rako wireless transmitter can control it. An RK-HUB adds app control, voice assistants and timed events.

What is the difference between RML and RMT modules?

RML modules are leading-edge dimmers for tungsten, halogen and magnetic transformers. RMT modules are trailing-edge dimmers for mains dimmable LED and electronic transformers.

Rako app

Scenes from the keypad, and from the phone

This product sits in a Rako system. The keypad on the wall runs the room. With an RK-HUB or WK-HUB, the same scenes also run from the free Rako app.

  • Room scenes from the keypad on the wall
  • App control once an RK-HUB or WK-HUB is on the network
  • Voice, timers and holiday mode from the Hub

The Rako app is published by Rako, and needs an RK-HUB or WK-HUB with firmware 3.7.6 or later.
