This notice explains how Behind The Switch collects, uses and protects personal data when you use this website, create an account, or place an order. We handle personal data under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

Behind The Switch is the shop name. The seller named on your order confirmation is the data controller.

What we collect

Details you give us: name, email, phone, billing and delivery address, and your order.
Account details, if you register.
Payment confirmations from our card provider. We do not store your card number.
Technical data such as IP address, browser and pages visited, where that is needed to run the site.

Why we use it

To take payment, deliver the order and handle returns.
To reply to a message you send us.
To send order updates.
To keep the site secure and meet tax and accounting rules.
To send marketing only where you have agreed to it.

The legal bases are contract, legal obligation, legitimate interests in running the shop, and consent where the law requires it.

Who we share it with

We share data with the card provider that takes payment, the courier that delivers the parcel, and the companies that host this website. We do not sell personal data.

Some of those companies may process data outside the UK. Where they do, we use the safeguards required by UK data protection law.

Cookies

The site uses cookies that are needed for the basket, checkout and login. We do not set advertising cookies. You can block cookies in your browser. The basket may then stop working.

How long we keep it

Order and finance records: up to 6 years.
Account details: while the account is open, and for a short period after it closes.
Marketing details: until you withdraw consent.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict it, or send it to another service. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
