Rako curtains and blinds: control them from the same keypad as the lights

Rako doesn't stop at lighting. Your motorised curtains and blinds can run from the same Rako keypads as your lights, so one press can change the whole feel of a room. A "goodnight" scene, for example, can close the curtains and turn the lights off together. This guide explains which Rako controller suits which kind of motor, for both wireless and wired systems.

For how Rako systems fit together, see our guide to what Rako is and how it works. This post focuses on curtain and blind control.

The short answer

  • Wireless Rako system: choose from the RACUB, RACUB2L and RACUB24DC, depending on the motor.
  • Wired Rako system: choose the DIN-4C or the WM-CUB.
  • The motor decides the controller, so know your motor type before you order.
  • Your Rako installer should match the controller to the motor. We supply the parts.

One keypad for lights, curtains and blinds

The appeal of Rako curtain and blind control is that it uses the same keypads as the lighting. For the six-button EOS keypad, see Rako RK-EOS-6 vs WK-EOS-6. There's no separate set of buttons to learn and no extra panel on the wall for the blinds.

Because curtains and blinds join the same system, they can be part of your scenes. The classic example is a "goodnight" scene that closes the curtains and turns the lights off together with a single press.

If you also want app control, voice control or timed events, you'll need a hub: the RK-HUB for wireless systems or the WK-HUB for wired and hybrid systems, explained in our Rako RK-HUB vs WK-HUB guide.

Wireless controllers: RACUB, RACUB2L and RACUB24DC

Rako RACUB wireless twin-relay curtain and blind controller

For wireless Rako systems there are three curtain and blind controllers. Each suits a different type of motor.

The Rako RACUB is a wireless twin-relay controller for curtain, blind and screen motors. It works with:

  • 230V AC motors
  • 12V DC motors
  • Dry-contact control

Its relays are rated at 2A. With that range of motor types, the RACUB is often the first controller to check against your motor.

Rako RACUB2L wireless controller for mains curtain and blind motors

The Rako RACUB2L is for mains motors with Live 1 and Live 2 inputs. Its relays are rated at 1A, 230V AC. If your motor's documentation describes Live 1 and Live 2 inputs, the RACUB2L is the one to look at.

The Rako RACUB24DC is for 24V DC motors controlled by polarity reversal. Its relays are rated at 2A. If you're working with 24V DC motors of that type, this is the matching wireless controller.

You can see all three together in our wireless Rako blind controllers.

Wired controllers: DIN-4C and WM-CUB

Rako DIN-4C four-channel DIN rail curtain and blind controller

For wired Rako systems there are two options.

The Rako DIN-4C is a four-channel DIN rail controller. It works with:

  • 230V AC motors
  • 12–24V DC motors
  • Dry-contact control

Each channel is rated at 1.5A.

The Rako WM-CUB is a twin-relay RAK8-MB card with open, stop and close control. It works with:

  • 240V AC motors
  • 24V DC motors
  • Dry-contact control

Browse both in our wired Rako blind controllers.

All five controllers side by side

  • RACUB (wireless): twin-relay for curtain, blind and screen motors. 230V AC, 12V DC or dry-contact. Relays 2A.
  • RACUB2L (wireless): mains motors with Live 1 and Live 2 inputs. Relays 1A, 230V AC.
  • RACUB24DC (wireless): 24V DC motors by polarity reversal. Relays 2A.
  • DIN-4C (wired): four-channel DIN rail. 230V AC, 12–24V DC or dry-contact. 1.5A a channel.
  • WM-CUB (wired): twin-relay RAK8-MB card with open, stop and close. 240V AC, 24V DC or dry-contact.

Which Rako blind controller do I need?

Work through it in this order:

  • Is your Rako system wireless or wired? Wireless points to the RACUB family; wired points to the DIN-4C or WM-CUB.
  • What does the motor need? Check its documentation for its supply and control type: 230V AC, 240V AC, 12V DC, 24V DC, dry-contact, Live 1 and Live 2 inputs, or polarity reversal.
  • Match the motor to the controller. On wireless systems, mains motors with Live 1 and Live 2 inputs point to the RACUB2L, and 24V DC polarity-reversal motors point to the RACUB24DC. 230V AC, 12V DC and dry-contact motors are the RACUB's territory.
  • Check the ratings. Compare the motor's requirements with the relay or channel rating of the controller you're considering.
  • Confirm with your installer. They match the controller to the motor as part of designing and commissioning the system.

Can Rako control motorised blinds in the UK?

Yes. Rako has curtain and blind controllers for both wireless and wired systems, and they run from the same keypads as the lighting. The right controller depends on the motor, so the motor's documentation is the place to start.

Can a single scene control lights and curtains together?

Yes. Curtains and blinds join the same system as your lights, so a scene can include both. A "goodnight" scene, for example, can close the curtains and turn the lights off together.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Choosing the controller before knowing the motor. The motor's supply and control type decide which controller fits.
  • Picking a wireless controller for a wired system, or the reverse. Start with your system type.
  • Overlooking Live 1 and Live 2 inputs or polarity reversal. Those details point to specific controllers: the RACUB2L and RACUB24DC.
  • Skipping the ratings check. Compare the motor's needs with the controller's relay or channel rating.
  • Adding curtains and blinds as an afterthought. Including them early means they can be part of your scenes from day one.
  • Expecting app or voice control without a hub. Those features come through the RK-HUB or WK-HUB.

Who matches the controller to the motor?

We supply the parts. A Rako installer should match each controller to its motor as part of designing and commissioning your system. If you're planning a project with curtains, blinds or screens, send us the details through our Rako project form, including the motor types if you know them.
