What the Rako RAK8-S is
The Rako RAK8-S is an 8-channel switching board for central control of non-dimmable loads. Unlike the RAK8-MB, it has fixed switched outputs rather than card slots.
Where it sits in a Rako system
It needs a RAK-LINK in a wired system or an RX-LINK in a wireless one. With a link unit it can form a stack of up to 32 circuits or four RAK boards; an RX-LINK is limited to 16 channels. See the Rako RAK system.
Ratings and limits
- Mains LED (GU10, B22, E14, G8): 300W per channel
- Incandescent: 600W per channel
- Transformers (MR16, GU5.3, halogen): 300W per channel, cos Φ 0.6 or better
- Motors (fan, pump): 1A per channel (1/3 HP fan)
Power and connection
It runs from 230V AC 50Hz and needs a 10A Type B MCB. Each output has a 5A fuse, with a 15A main fuse. It communicates over RS485 with RAKs, RX-LINK and RAK-LINK. Rako's RAK8-S instruction manual covers installation, which should be done by a competent electrician.
Fitting
Wall mounted. It measures 193 x 253 x 110mm, weighs 3.5kg and operates from +2°C to +40°C.
Questions
Can the Rako RAK8-S dim lights?
No. It switches non-dimmable loads. Use a RAK8-MB with dimmer cards for dimming.
What can each RAK8-S channel switch?
Up to 300W of mains LED, 600W incandescent, 300W of transformer load or a 1A motor.
Does the RAK8-S need a link unit?
Yes: a RAK-LINK for wired systems or an RX-LINK for wireless systems.
